In consideration of Firestarter allowing our child to participate in the Firestarter Youth Festival (“the Activity”), I/we hereby agree and acknowledge, for myself/ourselves as follows:

1. The Activity is potentially hazardous.

2. Firestarter and none of its committee, managers or representatives have made any representations, warranties or assurances, written, verbal, express, or implied about the Activity, the physical conditions or suitability for the Activity, or about the personal safety or security of my/our child while engaging in the Activity.

3. My/our child will be responsible for his/her own personal safety and security and the safety and security of others whilst at the Firestarter. I/We agree that our child is responsible to take all reasonable and prudent precautions to ensure his/her own personal safety and to decrease the risk of injury, death, or property damage to any other person who may be at Firestarter, taking part in the Activity or staying at or visiting or on any property where Firestarter or the Activity are taking place.

4. I/We agree that our child voluntarily assumes any and all risk associated with the Activity on any property where Firestarter or the Activity are taking place, including, without limitation, bodily injury, death, or property damage, all such risks being known and appreciated by me/us.

5. I/We waive and release Firestarter and its committee, managers or representatives and indemnify them from any and all liability, suits, actions, claims, causes of action, demands, penalties, judicial or administrative proceedings, fines, costs and expenses of whatsoever kind and character (including, but not limited to, investigative and legal defence costs) associated with, arising out of or in consequence of any loss, injury or damage, including, without limitation, bodily injury or death, whether foreseeable or not, whether direct or indirect, related in any way to the Activity due to any cause whatsoever, including, without limitation, negligence.

6. By accepting this waiver, I/we and my/our child acknowledge that I/we/they have read and understood the terms and conditions of the Agreement, and accept all of these terms and conditions without modification, have had the opportunity to take legal advice and recognise that I/we/they am/are waiving important legal rights.

7. I/We have discussed these terms and conditions with my/our child and he/she understands them, accepts them and agrees to be bound by them. This is evidenced by acceptance of this waiver.

Terms and Conditions Firestarter committee, managers and representatives reserve the right to eject any person from any property where Firestarter or the Activity are taking place without giving reasons if any infringement of the Terms and Conditions take place. Every step will be made to notify you of any expulsion and to attempt to persuade the child to stay on site until you arrive to collect them. Firestarter and the Activity do not operate on secure sites with lockable perimeters and is not a prison and the Firestarter committee, managers and representatives cannot legally or practically stop children from leaving any property where Firestarter or the Activity is taking place at any time they wish.

We reserve the right to send people home if

  1. They receive 3 strikes

  2. They have inadequate camping equipment - No groundsheet, decent sleeping bag, wet clothes etc

  3. They have been involved in a significant number of incidents and we feel that Firestarter is not for them or us.

  4. They appear to have behavioural problems that we cannot manage

  5. They show disrepect for the Crew, Revellers of Leaders

If a child leaves any property where Firestarter or the Activity are taking place, with or without permission, they will no longer be the responsibility of, or under the care of, Firestarter. It is their responsibility to stay at the property where Firestarter or the Activity takes place during the festival, I/We give permission for approved photographers at Firestarter to take photos of my/our child for publicity purposes. If this is not acceptable then you must instruct your child to tell any photographers on site not to photograph them. A list of all authorised photographers is available at the Firestarter office or from the Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives. Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives are not responsible for any photographs taken by participants and cannot stop them being posted on social media. If you wish to take your contact details off our mailing list, please contact us in writing.

Henna - We use henna when doing crafts. Henna can stay on your skin for over a month. It is your child's responsibility to use Henna responsibly. Whilst the Firestarter committee, managers and representatives will do their best to ensure henna is not abused they are not liable for any misuse of henna, including moustaches, that will not come off after the festival.

Sexual Contact is not allowed – We have separate camping areas for Males and Females. Whilst the Firestarter committee, managers and representatives operate 24 hour Security, they cannot be everywhere all the time and cannot 100% eliminate the possibility of participants of the opposite or same sex being in the same room at the same time. The Firestarter committee, managers and representatives cannot 100% eliminate the risk of sexual contact or intercourse.

Drugs and/or alcohol are not allowed - if the Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives find anyone in possession of or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, we will contact their parents/guardians/carers, and if thought appropriate Police and/or Ambulance services. The Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives are not responsible for the actions of anyone on site under the influence of alcohol or any drug. We have never had any issues with drugs and only a couple of issues with alcohol in the last 20 years.

Prescription drugs/medicines - These can be stored in the Firestarter office in a lockable container supplied by you. Firestarter is not responsible for reminding, issuing, prescribing, or delivering drugs for your child.

Transport - I/We authorise Firestarter Crew and Leaders to transport my child. This includes journeys to Hospital, returning home, to and from the site or any other purpose deemed necessary by the Firestarter Leadership.

Peanuts – The Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives cannot guarantee that our products do not contain peanuts or other allergens.

Mobile phones - The Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives are not responsible for the loss/damage of any mobile phone.

Mosquito bites – There may be bugs/insects on site that may bite you. The Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives have sprays available in the office. It is your child's responsibility to ensure that they are not allergic to these products before using them

Sun Cream - The Firestarter committee, managers, and representatives have sun cream available in the office. It is your child's responsibility to ensure that they are not allergic to these products before using them and to ensure proper use.

Special needs – To offer the best care for your child, the Firestarter committee, managers and representatives need to know about any special needs your child has. We are not responsible for your child's actions.
